On a Special Event Liability policy, Medical Payments or "MedPay" can provide a quick solution to an injury claim at the event.
This coverage is often considered "no-fault" or "goodwill" coverage because it will help pay the injured party's expenses even if the insured (the Event Organizer or Vendor) wasn't liable or responsible for the injury.
An excellent example of this happens on the dance floor. We've had dozens of dance floor claims resulting from poorly executed dance moves. Even though the DJ was playing music and the wedding couple said it was time to boogie, neither would be considered legally liable if Aunt Susie decided to try a trendy new dance move and twisted an ankle. But MedPay could step in and help her with some of the medical expenses.
As a venue, MedPay on a Wedding Couple's policy could save you significant time and money. A claim from a guest who fell due to poor lighting on a walkway would likely be determined your fault. The Wedding Couple cannot be held responsible for the lighting at your venue. However, if the injury was minor, the Wedding Couple's MedPay coverage could pay for the guest's urgent care visit, eliminating a costly claim on your venue's business insurance.
When someone is injured at an event, they are focused on getting better and getting whatever medical attention is required. They want comfort that the accident won't hurt them financially and getting the immediate care they need. If the insurance carrier offers MedPay quickly and without a lengthy liability investigation, all parties involved are generally satisfied with the result and everyone can move on from the unfortunate incident. Without a quick resolution, injury claims can often become more complicated and contentious, resulting in higher monetary demands and a lack of trust.
However, if a guest is injured at an event and it is determined that the injury was due to the insured's negligence, the insurance carrier will investigate and pay the claim under the per occurrence limit for Bodily Injury.
At Eventhelper.com, our programs include a $5,000 MedPay with the option to increase it to $10,000. Other event insurance providers may have lower limits or even no MedPay option.
